I'm slowly getting back into the swing of the things around here. This meme is hosted by Breaking the Spine

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
by Yasutaka Tsutsui

Release Date: May 25, 2011

One of Tsutsui's best-known and most popular works in his native Japan, The Girl Who Leapt through Time is the story of fifteen-year-old schoolgirl Kazuko, who accidentally discovers that she can leap back and forth in time. In her quest to uncover the identity of the mysterious figure that she believes to be responsible for her paranormal abilities, she'll constantly have to push the boundaries of space and time, and challenge the notions of dream and reality.

I admit what first drew me to this novel was the gorgeous cover. It's a bit stereotypical but I can't look away! adfkjaldkfja. But how fascinating does this summary and title sound? One of the first science fiction YAs I've ever been excited for! And it will most likely be my first translated work.

Has anyone read it in the original Japanese? What May releases are you looking forward to this week?

That sounds very cool!

I am wondering if there is any connection to the anime movie of the same name, also about a Japanese schoolgirl who can leap through time? (Manga version here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5465183-the-gi.... The names of the main characters are different, so perhaps not...?

I came across that when I was putting together this post. I have no idea of the manga/movie are related to the book. I'd be interested to know if there was....
This sounds interesting. cant wait for your review, meanwhile i will add it to my books to purchase list.

SWEET! I need to add it to my own books-to-purchase list :)
Gah, another book I need to read. It does sound like it would make a good anime and/or manga. I wonder if this a translated light novel. At any rate, I'm curious to see what your thoughts are.

bhahaha I know how that feels. There's a manga/anime movie by the same name like Deva said but I have no idea if they're related...
The cover is gorgeous! The plot sounds intriguing...and the book was orginally written in Japanese! That's cool!
Anyway, I, also, wanted to let you know that Books Kids Like has awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award. Follow this link to find out what you need to do next. Congrats! http://bookskidslike.blogspot.com/2011/04/versati...
Pretty much every book you talk about on your blog is a discovery for me. :D
I don't know of any POC book coming out in May, but I'm exited to get my hands on AKATA WITCH this month.
I did a little research on this one, trying to get information to put it on my list of 2011 releases. It's being released in the UK, not the US, so I won't be adding it. The story has been done in anime and manga and the 2006 anime version is available online. The author is VERY popular in Japan!
I've started reading it, but stopped as I just could not get along with the writing style. It is very jagged, all over the place. There is no character development and the dialogue is awful and stilted.

I am very sad about this as I have no idea if it is because it has been translated badly or if it just doesn't work in English - if that makes sense?
