Waiting on Wednesday is a meme (not exactly sure what a meme is short for. Anyone know?) hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine
This week I'm waiting on....
Takeshita Demons by Cristy Burne
Release Date: October 1, 2010
Miku Takeshita and her family have moved from Japan to live in the U.K., but unfortunately the family's enemy demons have followed them . . . Miku knows she's in trouble when her new supply teacher turns out to be a nukekubi — a bloodthirsty demon who transforms into a flying head and snacks on children. That night, in a raging snowstorm, Miku's little brother Kazu is kidnapped by the demons. It's up to Miku and her friend Cait to get him back. The girls break into their snow-locked school, confronting the dragon-like Woman of the Wet, and outwitting the faceless Nopera-bo. At last, they come face to face with the nukekubi itself — but will they be in time to save Kazu?
-This book was first brought to my attention by the all-knowing Kaz. It was originally published in the UK and I think the covers are the same. I desperately want to get my hands on this book. A middle grade series with a main character who must battle demons? That's a lot of responsibility for someone in middle school! Sounds like an epic adventure with a hint of creepiness, but not too much :)
What book(s) are you waiting on this week? Any PoC releases?
I think this sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteFun premise! My kids started school this week but luckily without demons. I should point this one out to my husband, who is British and teaches Japanese politics.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you of a fabulous PoC YA trilogy. The Indigo Notebook by Laura Resau is out in paperback and the second one, The Ruby Notebook, will be released in 2 weeks. The MC, Zeeta, has a Caucasian American mother and an unknown “dark skinned” father. Her boyfriend was adopted from Ecuador. It is beautifully written and multicultural. I reviewed both on my blog today and interviewed the author. I think you'd love these novels.
I’m waiting for Mockingjay. Irritatingly my local independent bookstore hasn’t gotten in any copies. I don’t want to go to Borders, but I might crack. I live in fear of spoilers.
I think I've seen this book reviewed before, because it looks familiar...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great pick! It looks like a fun middle grade, especially with all the demons running through it. *fantasy junkie*
I was hoping someone answered your question about what is meme short for? It reminds me of memory or memo, though both of those are wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnd the book looks very good.
I could get used to being called the "all-knowing Kaz". Hehe... :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, didn't read it, but since my name is TaKeshia, it caught my eye!
