24 Hour Read-a-Thon Update #3

I have come to the conclusion that I will not be posting my Riot review. I know, I'm bummed too. Why? Because I want to just read, read, read and when the read-a-thon finishes I want to sleep, sleep, sleep! I will say this, I liked Riot (which is about the 1863 Brooklyn Draft riots) and I give it a 4/5. It's written like a play which made for an interesting read.

My progress: I'm now reading in my family room since it's warmer than in my room. I finish my read-a-thon at midnight tonight (remember I started last night). I've actually been up for 48 hours due to the fact that I started reading late after school. I'm really enjoying all the books I've read, I got lucky in that I only seemed to have picked good ones!

Books completed

1. Sacajawea by Joseph Bruchac. Nice read, not my favorite, but eye-opening.

2. Jumped by Rita Williams-Garcia. Excellent. She is a great author!

Currently reading: Chameleon by Charles R. Smith. Very good so far, I'm thinking of summer!

I don't think I'm going to get to Ash or Perfect Chemistry (because Chameleon is a bit of a long read and I just started) which makes me sad :( but I will definitely read them before/over break!

Thanks again everyone for all the support and encouragement, it means a lot knowing that people are rooting for me!

  1. I'm winding down. I've been reading most of the day, but it's time for me to head off to bed. I can certainly continue to listen to a book on tape, right?

  4. I sounds like you got through a lot of books (with school too?) wow. I spent most of my weekend so far dozing...(but I'm older than you...)

  5. I can't believe you've been up that long! It sounds like you picked some good books for the read-a-thon. Good luck for the last leg.

  6. Do you read "urban fiction" by POC and who do you love? I enjoy Coe Booth, Sharon Draper, Dana Davidson, Walter Dean Myers, Sharon Flake, and others!

  7. @evelyn-there will for sure be a review of Jumped, I'm just not sure when.

@mardel-the only reason I could participate this wekk is because I don't have school Mon!

@tanabata-I love your blog and I'm a bit amazed too as to how long I've lasted (I'm a night owl though).

@bj neary- I love Sharon Draper, Walter dean Myers and Sharon Flake. I didn't like Tyrell, but I really want to read Kendra by Coe Booth. I love almost all the books in the Kimani Tru series. I keep meaning to re-read all these authors and post the reviews (I do have reviews of Forged by Fire, Tears of a Tiger, Lockdown, Played and Tyrell). I like Dana Davidson too. You have good taste!

  9. I wish I'd had time for the Read-A-Thon. I'd have to send my entire family away to get into it the proper way. But kudos to you for doing it.

Jumped was quite a read. RWG's style pulls you deep into the story.

Have Chameleon on my TBR list because Charles R. Smith was nommed for a 28 Days Later spotlight, so I have to check that out.
