24 Hour Read-a-Thon Update #3

I have come to the conclusion that I will not be posting my Riot review. I know, I'm bummed too. Why? Because I want to just read, read, read and when the read-a-thon finishes I want to sleep, sleep, sleep! I will say this, I liked Riot (which is about the 1863 Brooklyn Draft riots) and I give it a 4/5. It's written like a play which made for an interesting read.

My progress: I'm now reading in my family room since it's warmer than in my room. I finish my read-a-thon at midnight tonight (remember I started last night). I've actually been up for 48 hours due to the fact that I started reading late after school. I'm really enjoying all the books I've read, I got lucky in that I only seemed to have picked good ones!

Books completed

1. Sacajawea by Joseph Bruchac. Nice read, not my favorite, but eye-opening.

2. Jumped by Rita Williams-Garcia. Excellent. She is a great author!

Currently reading: Chameleon by Charles R. Smith. Very good so far, I'm thinking of summer!

I don't think I'm going to get to Ash or Perfect Chemistry (because Chameleon is a bit of a long read and I just started) which makes me sad :( but I will definitely read them before/over break!

Thanks again everyone for all the support and encouragement, it means a lot knowing that people are rooting for me!

Read-A-Thon Update #2 ETA: Read-A-Thon Meme

My 2nd update: I took a ten minute break when I had to walk to get my hair done, but promptly on arrival I resumed reading.

I've mostly been reading in my room, although I bring my books to the kitchen for food (I read while eating breakfast, no easy task pouring cereal in one hand with a book in another!)

Books completed

1. Now and Zen by Linda Gerber. Good book, fast read. YA

2. Caught up to my classmates in Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (very enjoyable read I just kept procrastinating).

3. Sacajawea by Joseph Bruchac. Almost done, I'm on chp. 30 pg. 162 out of 200 pages. A quick and interesting read. Found this in the YA section but I think it's more MG level.

I'm going to be posting my review of Riot today (I finished it awhile ago, I just haven't gotten around to posting it) so check back for that and come back in about 2 hours for another update. Although, to my dismay my laptop refuses to get an Internet connection so I have to share the family computer so updates/reviews/comments, etc. may take me a little longer to get to since the computer is constantly in use. Bear with me!

I've found that it's easier to read when it's light out and the hardest time was last night because I was so tired from school. I'm really enjoying having a day (finally!) totally devoted to reading. My family has been really supportive, just making sure that I'm ok and not scheduling a ton of fun things for the day due to my read-a-thon (although we may be going out to eat and if we do, I won't be bringing a book since that's rude!)

Thanks so much everyone for all the encouragement!

I Heart Monster is hosting a Breaktime Shingdig. Particpate and you could win a $10 Amazon gift card. Here are my answers/entries:

25 Hour Books is an awesome name for a blog and I too wish that I had more hours in the day to devote to reading! Also TaraS (the blogger) has an awesome meme called Tattoo Tuesday which profiles tattoos people get having to do with literature.

The Book Shopaholic must be a cool person based on the name of her blog alone, I love it! Also she's participating in a lot of challenges for 2010 including a Romance Reading Challenge. I'm debating signing up for the challenge, to really push myself to read new genres (I don't like romance novels).

Emily at Seriously Reading is having her first giveaway (Congrats!) which is always very exciting, so go check that out and enter! Also she talks about how she sometimes judges books by their covers, as do we all sometimes. I certainly do! But I'm working on it.

Eli at the Tainted Poet has an a very cool blog design. It reminded me of Halloween almost, but in a good way (orange, black and silver are the main colors and it's a delightful combination). I left my comment here because he's participating in a 100+ reading challenge which is great!

Tanabata at In Spring it is the Dawn has such a pretty banner to go with the name of her blog! I like the picture of spring with Japanese characters on the side. One of my favorite things about the blog is it's dedication to Japanese culture. She's reviewed some great sounding books and has a meme every month dedicated to a book about a different aspect of Japanese life called Hello Japan!

Do check out all these fantastic blogs. I'm off to read Jumped by Rita Williams-Garcia (YES!)

Read, Read, Read!!! For 24 Hours :)

So I started reading last night at 11 pm and will continue on till tonight at 11 pm. Sadly I fell asleep for about three hours (from four to seven) =/. At least there was a book in my hand and on my lap! The little nap, while unintentional, energized me and I'm ready to keep trying.

Here's my reading list for the day:

1. One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia (completed within the first hour since I was so close to the end when the read-a-thon started). My first time reading a book by Rita Williams Garcia, definitely not the last. There are too few books about the Black Panthers. Wonderful!

2. Does My Head Look Big in This? by Randa Abdel-Fattah-completed. Hysterical and poignant!

3. Now and Zen by Linda Gerber

4. Sacajawea by Joseph Bruchac

5. The Ring by Bobbie Pyron (off-color)

6. Chameleon by Charles R. Smith

7. Good Enough by Paula Yoo

8. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

9. Ash by Malinda Lo

10. Jumped by Rita Williams-Garcia

11. Blessing's Bead by Debby Dahl Edwardson

12. The God Box by Alex Sanchez

I'll add more books to the list as needed. By the way does anyone know if Magic-Misery by Peter Marino is about poc? I got it from the library, but I think the main protagonist is Italian.
