This week I'm waiting on....

Manifest: A Mystyx Novel by Artist Arthur

Release Date: August 1, 2010

When fifteen-year-old Krystal Bentley moves to Lincoln, Connecticut, her mom's hometown, she assumes her biggest drama will be adjusting to the burbs after living in New York City.

But Lincoln is nothing like Krystal imagined. The weirdness begins when Ricky Watson starts confiding in her. He's cute, funny, a good listener-and everything she'd ever want-except that he was killed a year ago. Krystal's ghost-whispering talents soon lead other "freaks" to her door-Sasha, a rich girl who can literally disappear, and Jake, who moves objects with his mind. All three share a distinctive birthmark in the shape of an M and, fittingly call themselves the Misfits. They set out to learn what really happened to Ricky, only to realize that they aren't the only ones with mysterious powers. But if Krystal succeeds in finding out the truth about Ricky's death, will she lose him for good?

-I haven't had much luck with the Kimani Tru series but this one not only sounds good but I've seen good reviews of it and I like the Internet campaign that's going on for it. We need more diversity in paranormal so I'm eager to give this book a chance.

Summary from the author's website

What book(s) are you waiting on? Any POC titles?

  1. I don't know anything about that particular line of books, but the cover is GORGEOUS! I really like it. :)

  2. Congrats to the winners! :)

  3. Hooray! That is wonderful! :D Thank you!

  4. Hey Ari! I have an extra copy of Manifest :) I can send it to you if you want!

  5. I got this book at BEA, but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.

  6. I haven't had much luck with Kimani Tru books either but I like the cover. I will keep an eye out for this one.

I am waiting on Mr. Mendoza's Paintbrush - by Luis Alberto Urrea. It was just released so I suppose its waiting on me now.

  7. @Karen Mahoney-Their books are almost always about African American teenagers with interesting storylines, but there's usually poor editing/predictability. But I agree, this cover is beautiful.

    @Jenny- :)

@Abby-Congrats! Be sure to email me back =)

@Kelsey-I'm actually being sent a copy, but thank you so much for the offer.

@Rebecca-It looks/sounds good. I think a lot of bloggers got it at BEA so I'm looking forward to reading reviews of it.

@Doret-Me too, this one has serious potential. Haha there are so many books waiting on us. I still need to read Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea.

  8. Okay, I'm really excited about this one. Thanks for bringing it onto my radar!
