I am an aspiring YA author and I wrote about this topic on my blog, specifically the hurdles to having more diversity in the world of literary agents.

http://rifferaff.typepad.com/make_it/2010/08/literary-agents-as-gatekeepers-.htmlrifferaffhttp://rifferaff.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5255886452367019317.post-12474548212399633252010-08-20T20:06:59.432-05:002010-08-20T20:06:59.432-05:00Great post. I want to be an editor or a book cover graphic designer (even though I have no knowledge in that field.) There is a sad disconnect between POC in the publishing world. I don't even think we need to establish separate publishing houses(even though they are necessary too) just to get POC books published. I think it sort of misses the point.

I think the things that publishers and other professionals in the biz need to realize is that there is a huge untapped market in POC books that don't deal exclusively with race.(like Bleeding Violet for example)

Great post as always. Makes me more convinced that my future is in the writing world...

P.S. I got Gringolandia today. I don't have the time to read it right away, but it's a beautiful book and it's signed.
